The United Nations’ top court says countries failing to implement measures to mitigate climate change may be in violation of international law, opening the door for nations harmed by its effects to seek reparations.

Severe weather and natural disasters, are on the rise. This week, the top United Nations court ruled that countries are obligated to limit climate change under international law, in response. The ICJ issued an opinion on climate change that stated the obligations of the Paris Agreement come with legal liability. A concern raised by Trump as early as 2017.
