A threat by President Donald Trump to halt trade negotiations with both Cambodia and Thailand until a truce had been reached forced both sides to the negotiating table. Even so, the ceasefire looks shaky.

Armed cops raided a home where they arrested eight Cambodians for selling ice cream in Thailand, as the country targets foreign nationals over the border dispute. Soldiers and police stalked the property in Udon Thani province for a day with long-lens cameras to collect evidence that the group were selling choc-ices and lollies without the correct paperwork.

If Cambodia could solidify its territorial holdings in this war, it could not only enhance its own geopolitical and geoeconomic power, but also expand China’s influence.
