Up to 40 mm of rain is forecast to fall on the blaze near Port Alberni, which grew to more than 3,400 hectares on Thursday.
The BC Wildfire Service has updated its size estimate for the Mount Underwood wildfire. It has grown to 3,406 hectares but the growth is not towards the City of Port Alberni.
Transit service in the Cameron Heights neighbourhood of Port Alberni has been suspended on Wednesday due to the smoke from the Mount Underwood wildfire.

Campground and marina near Port Alberni, B.C., evacuated as Mount Underwood wildfire spreads
The wildfire has led to the evacuation of the China Creek Campground and Marina, located about 15 kilometres southwest of Port Alberni. The website for the campground and marina says it can accommodate 250 tent and RV campsites. Fire risk in the area had led the facility to ban fires on the beach.
Parks Canada is urging visitors to the West Coast Trail, a popular hiking destination, to postpone non-essential travel to the area as the Mount Underwood wildfire on Vancouver Island continues to grow close by.
An emergency reception centre is being set up for anyone affected by the Mount Underwood wildfire, which started burning south of Port Alberni in the early evening of Aug. 11, 2025 and within hours was listed at 630 hectares and out of control.
