But that’s not the only sight to behold at Weeki Wachee Springs. Here mermaids swim underwater, joined by manatees, turtles, and fish—and visitors can have a front-row seat to it all.

MYRTLE BEACH - The world-famous mermaids of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park in Florida will return to Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach for 12 shows Friday through Sunday, July 23-25.

This could be your shot! Weeki Wachee Springs State Park will hold auditions for its world famous mermaid crew at 5 p.m. April 19. The audition will include an endurance swim test.

They perform in a cavern of the Weeki Wachee Springs, 99.9 percent pure fresh water that is always 72 degrees. The audience sits in an underground theater with glass separating them from the mermaids.

The city's demise will have no real effect on the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, officials said. The mermaids at Weeki Wachee State Park have been a staple of Florida tourism since 1947.
