Federal officials are investigating Jack Smith, the former special counsel who investigated then-candidate Donald Trump before his reelection to a second term.

The Office of Special Counsel confirmed on Saturday that it has opened an investigation into the former special counsel.

Trump and other Republicans have — without giving evidence — accused Smith of violating federal law that bans certain public officials from political activity.
