For the hundreds of Canadian steelworkers who lost their jobs this year amid President Donald Trump’s trade war, talk of reaching a trade deal between Canada and the U.S. is coming too little, too late.

Trump said the U.S. has not 'had a lot of luck' with Canada during negotiations on a new trade and security deal, suggesting the two countries may end up with no new agreement.

Trump’s tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, autos and goods not covered by the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement have upended the status quo. He has threatened to raise some of those tariffs to 35 percent by Aug. 1. Canada sends more than 75 percent of its exports to the U.S.
