Forecasters say a disturbance in the Atlantic has a 40-percent chance of cyclone formation over the next week.

Hurricane Gil weakened into a tropical storm in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Saturday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. It was not forecast to threaten land. The Miami-based U.S. National Hurricane Center said the storm’s maximum sustained winds dropped to 65 mph.

Tropical Storm Gil in the East Pacific continues to weaken as it heads northwest over cooler waters and into a drier air mass, the National Hurricane Center said today.
