The entire west coast of the U.S. has been alerted to a potential tsunami following the massive earthquake off Russia

Tsunami warnings have been issued for parts of Russia, Japan, and Alaska, as well as all of Hawaii, after a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Wednesday off Russia’s remote and sparsely populated far eastern coast.

Tsunami alerts have been issued after a magnitude 8.7 earthquake off Russia’s eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. The quake struck 136km (84 miles) east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in Russia’s far east, the United States Geological Survey said on Tuesday.
