Light rain and higher humidity have helped British Columbia firefighters in their work to contain a wildfire burning out of control on Vancouver Island.

The B.C. Wildfire Service said light rain fell on the 538-hectare fire Tuesday, allowing firefighters to "expand containment," and night-vision helicopters were set to work the fire's perimeter overnight.

More fires have sparked in the past week, with 127 active wildfires currently burning in the province, with a quarter considered out of control.
