Hurricane Gil weakened into a tropical storm in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Saturday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. It was not forecast to threaten land. The Miami-based U.S. National Hurricane Center said the storm’s maximum sustained winds dropped to 65 mph.

Forecasters say a disturbance in the Atlantic has a 40-percent chance of cyclone formation over the next week.

Wind gusts of more than 80 miles per hour are possible on Monday, especially in Scotland, as officials warned residents to stay inside.

Scots are being warned to plan ahead as Storm Floris is set to batter parts of the country with winds of up to 85mph. An amber weather warning is in place for the majority of Scotland between 10am and 10pm on Monday,

An amber weather warning has been issued across much of Scotland as Storm Floris prepares to batter it with 80mph winds. The National Severe Weather Warning was upgraded to amber from 10am tomorrow under 10pm.

In a separate incident, emergency responders rescued an 8-year-old boy standing atop a submerged car and a 2-year-old and woman trapped inside.

A 13-year old boy in Maryland died after being swept into a storm drainage pipe and drowned during a heavy rainstorm. The boy had been playing in floodwaters.
