At least 21 people were killed on Sunday in an attack on church premises in eastern Congo by Islamic State-backed rebels, according to a civil society leader.

Fighters for the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) gunned down around 20 worshippers participating in a night vigil, according to local officials in Komanda, a town in the north-east of the country.

At least 43 people, including nine children, were killed and over a dozen injured in a brutal attack on a Catholic church in Komanda, Ituri province, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), on Sunday (27 July).
