Two countries open three-day conference at United Nations with goal as part of peaceful settlement to end war in Gaza

France on Monday called on the European Union to pressure Israel to agree to a two-state solution with the Palestinians, the latest escalation from the French as they seek an end to the deadly Gaza war days after pledging to recognize Palestine as a state.

President Donald Trump has expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, urging Israel to ensure food reaches the people there.

Israel and the United States angrily — and wrongly — condemned French president Emmanuel Macron’s recognition of a Palestinian state.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has rebuked France’s decision to move toward recognising the State of Palestine, warning that such symbolic gestures risk misleading the world into believing a solution exists when it does not.

Airdrops of food have resumed in Gaza, Israel and the United Arab Emirates said, as deaths from starvation in the besieged enclave spread.

"The humanitarian catastrophe that we are witnessing in Gaza must end now," a joint statement from the three countries reads.
