The Wesley Ridge wildfire near Cameron Lake continues to grow and now sits at 538 hectares, as of 3 p.m. on Aug. 6.

An out-of-control wildfire on the north side of Cameron Lake has triggered an evacuation order and alert for nearby areas on Vancouver Island, close to the site of a 2023 fire that shut down Highway 4 for weeks.

On Vancouver Island, the province’s only wildfire of note continues to burn out of control at Cameron Lake, just 50 km north west of Nanaimo. As Claire Palmer reports, crews are watching the weather closely.
