An air quality statement is in effect for Toronto and the surrounding region as wildfire smoke continues to drift south, Environment Canada says.

Folks should exercise caution and limit time outdoors this weekend. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

"Breathing in the Canadian wildfires smoke cannot be the new normal," said Candice Miller, Macomb County public works commissioner.
