A magnitude 8.8 earthquake that struck near Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula has placed the entire West Coast of the United States under a tsunami advisory, with waves expected to reach the California coast at around 1 a.

Following an 8.8 earthquake off the eastern coast of Russia, a tsunami wave was generated that quickly moved across the Pacific Ocean.

A tsunami warning alert has been issued for the U.S. West Coast, Japan, Hawaii and portions of Alaska's Aleutian Islands following a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia on July 29.
