The police officer arrested by immigration authorities in a Maine town was a trusted member of the force who is missed by his colleagues, officials said Wednesday, expressing frustration with the lack of information about the case from the federal government.

Old Orchard Beach police, who hired him as a summer employee, said federal officials cleared him to work in May.

A police department in Maine said one of its reserve officers was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement even though he had legal authorization to work in the U.S.
