A gunman is suspected to have taken his own life after shooting a police officer and two civilians in Midtown Manhattan. The incident occurred near the Blackstone building, where the shooter was later found dead on the 33rd floor.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Officer Islam, who was killed in Monday’s massacre, had been posthumously promoted to detective first grade. Mayor Eric Adams was among the other speakers at a service held at a mosque in the Bronx.
