Cambodia’s prime minister, Hun Manet, said he had supported a proposal by Malaysia for a ceasefire, but claimed Thailand had initially agreed, only to reverse its decision.

The reason for the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is the Prasat Ta Muen Thom, an ancient Hindu temple which is located at the border between Thailand's Surin province and Cambodia's Oddar Meanchey province.

As the two nations continued to exchange heavy artillery fire on Friday, Thailand declared martial law in eight districts bordering Cambodia.
