At least 21 people were killed on Sunday in an attack on church premises in eastern Congo by Islamic State-backed rebels, according to a civil society leader.

More than 40 people were killed Sunday in an attack by Allied Democratic Forces rebels in northeastern DR Congo, ending a months-long period of regional calm, the UN mission and Congolese military said.

At least 43 people, including nine children, were killed and over a dozen injured in a brutal attack on a Catholic church in Komanda, Ituri province, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), on Sunday (27 July).
