K ilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran man at the center of a long-running legal and political controversy over U.S. immigration enforcement, must be released from custody and returned to Maryland, two federal judges ruled Wednesday in separate decisions.

Though immigration enforcement officials signaled that he’s likely to be re-detained when he arrives in Maryland.

The order followed back-to-back rulings that ordered Abrego's release and blocked his detention by immigration authorities in Tennessee.
