The Safe Gun Storage Act requires owners to keep weapons in a locked box around minors and at-risk individuals. Another bill requires law enforcement agencies to use a federal tracing system to track firearms.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a pair of new gun laws on Monday, while the Trump administration has voiced opposition on other measures.

"I’m tired of hearing thoughts and prayers and then nothing gets done, so Illinois is standing up and doing something about it,” the Democratic governor said.
