The ceasefire agreement brokered in Putrajaya was a win for Malaysia premier Anwar Ibrahim and ASEAN, experts say. With clashes reportedly erupting early Tuesday morning, however, observation teams are urgently needed on the ground.

More than 35 people have been killed and over 270,000 displaced since the latest round of hostilities between Thailand and Cambodia erupted on July 24.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet thanked Anwar for hosting the negotiations that led to the “brilliant result” of the ceasefire, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also applauded the Malaysian leader for driving the peace talks.
